What IS personal coaching?

Personal coaching is a powerful relationship which enables an individual to realize extraordinary results through a process of insightful discovery, goal setting, and meaningful, value-driven action.

Why do people hire a coach?

Coaches are hired by people and businesses because:

  • They want more.
  • They want to grow and be more productive AND fulfilled.
  • They want to discover innovative ways of doing things more effortlessly.
  • They want to live happier, more satisfied lives.

What’s the difference between coaching & therapy?

Coaching is not therapy, though it is compatible with therapy and many clients choose to do both.

Coaching holds clients to be whole, resourceful and creative, fully competent to live the lives they are meant to live. While therapy tends to focus on the past and healing emotional pain, coaching’s primary focus is on the present, on your current challenges and how best to meet them.  Of course, sometimes it is useful to look at the past  in order to help discover and address limiting belief systems.

Are there professional standards for the coaching industry?

Yes, there is a code of ethics, core competencies, accreditation processes and an International Coach Federation (industry association) that promotes the advancement of coaches. To learn more about this click here: ICF

Does the coach work on personal goals or business/professional goals?

Both. The common denominator between a client and work; a client and play; a client and relationships; a client and productivity is THE CLIENT. Coaching inevitably works with all aspects of personal, business and professional goals that relate to who the client is specifically.

Why is coaching becoming so popular?

Coaching is becoming popular for several reasons:

  1. Many people are tired of doing what they think they “should” do and are ready do what they “want” to do, understanding that they have the choice.
  2. People are realizing how simple it can be to accomplish something that several years ago might have felt out of reach. More people are creating the time and resources to invest in themselves in this kind of growth as they see the long term benefits.
  3. In today’s society, we are looking for deeper meaning in our lives and work. Companies are looking for innovative ways of growing themselves from the inside out; starting with themselves and their employees.

How do I get started in the coaching process?

If you are interested in beginning the coaching process, or simply learning more about it, please contact us via email or phone so we can schedule our initial discovery session to further explore the details of the coaching relationship.

As a personal coaching client, you will most likely begin by completing a personal inventory form (which I will provide to you) that establishes the context for our work. This provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect deeply about where you are today, and the kinds of changes you want to make as a result of our work. We will review this document together until we can articulate what has to happen for coaching to be worthwhile for you.

What can you expect from me as your coach?

  1. A supportive partner in bringing out the best, the deepest, and the truest in you.
  2. Provide safety, encouragement and support; an environment in which you can relax and explore.
  3. Respect the confidentiality of the agreements we make.
  4. Expand your view of what is possible and promote discovery of new insights.
  5. Give you input, straight feedback and operate as a sounding board.
  6. Listen carefully to what you say and ask questions that increase awareness.
  7. Be an on-going resource for you in accomplishing your intentions.

How often do we have sessions?

Initially, it is recommended that you have two to four sessions per month, usually 45 to 60 minutes in length.  Coaching continues between sessions as you practice new approaches and implement strategies and tactics to create the results you want.

As a client, you receive ongoing support between sessions by email. If you’d like, you might share progress between sessions, pass along information, celebrate a success, or vent frustration when you encounter obstacles.

You may also request brief check-in calls or calls of encouragement/debriefing before and after an important action. Regardless of how we design your unique coaching support system, there is never an extra charge unless you wish to renegotiate your coaching contract. You pay one monthly rate for all coaching services.

How long would I work with you?

While coaching can be effective for short-term change,  clients typically begin with a 3-month commitment and continue from 6 to 18 months, some longer.

Many successful people in all walks of life are finding that coaching is key to their peak performance, learning and enjoyment. Therefore, they choose to work with a coach on an ongoing basis, sometimes with brief sabbaticals.

What if I sign up for this and decide it’s not right for me? Do you have a money back guarantee?

Yes. If within the first month of our relationship you participate fully in the coaching process, you can simply share that this is not working for you and your money will be refunded. To honor the coaching agreement and the coaching process, this will not be in effect if you sign up and do not show up for your coaching sessions, do not do the follow up work, etc,

What are your rates?

Please get in touch – we will determine a coaching and rate schedule that honors both of us, and I can also answer any other questions you may have at that time.  I also offer a no-charge 30-minute mini-session if that will be helpful.  Just call me at 206-363-1431 or send an email and we can set up a time to chat or meet.
